Behind the scenes: how we brought Mafia Gun's characters to life from 8 angles

Gunners who aim at their target, spinning rotors, building guards who take aim: we rebuilt the animations from scratch in the latest update.

In the latest update we brought every Mafia Gun character back to life on the battlefield. The goal was simple: every character should move like a real person.

In this article:

  • ●8 angles, each drawn on its own
  • ●The gun turns to the target, the bullet leaves the muzzle
  • ●Every weapon sounds different
  • ●The rotors never stop
  • ●The building guards came alive
  • ●We didn't forget phones

8 angles, each drawn on its own

Some characters used to be shown mirrored: a gunner walking left was really the right-facing drawing flipped. Now every character is drawn separately from 8 angles. The gun stays in the hand it belongs to.

Armed units don't swing their whole body around when they shoot; they raise their arms and point the gun at the target. Bullets and muzzle flashes come right out of the barrel. Snipers aim through their scopes, and two-handed rifles stay in one piece across both hands.

Every weapon sounds different

Pistols, rifles, machine guns, shotguns, flamethrowers and explosives each have their own shot effect and sound. Brawlers wind up and really throw a punch, the Butcher swings his cleaver and the Yakuza spins with her blade.

The rotors never stop

The wheels and propellers of the drones, the zeppelin and the vehicles keep spinning, each of the Bomber Drone's six rotors on its own. Turrets turn their barrels toward the target too.

The building guards came alive

The gunners on the buildings and the Boss are no longer a still picture: they turn, take aim and fire.

We didn't forget phones

More detailed art means more memory. On phones we scale the art to the screen and only load the animations for the cards in your deck. If a device struggles, the game notices and switches to lighter art the next time it opens.
