Dev diary: Mafia Gun from the first prototype to today
How a card battle that started in a browser tab grew into a mafia world of 27 cards and 12 cities.
Mafia Gun wasn't built in a day. Here's our journey so far.

August 2025: the first spark
It all started with a simple question: could we make a real-time card and building battle that plays in the browser, with no download? The first prototype had an 8-card deck, Cash balance and matchmaking that brought two players together. The art was plain, but the matches were live.
January - March 2026: the battlefield grows
We rewrote the battle screen from scratch, with everything now drawn by a smooth game engine. The first clan system and player resources arrived, and we made our first experiments with 3D art.
October 2026: reborn
On 11 October we rebuilt the game from the ground up: a new game engine, online 1v1, match results checked on the server and 3D-modelled characters. Over the next days the game grew fast:
- ●The Family page, family chat, card donations and past family wars
- ●The Daily Roulette, with a real six-shooter
- ●Lucky Safes, a Daily Gift calendar and monthly seasons
- ●Ranked leagues, 2v2 and watching a friend's match live
- ●A tutorial taught step by step by the Boss, plus a home-screen tour
- ●Painted buildings, a VS intro and a new results screen
- ●A living leaderboard where no search comes back empty
Rank, the Season Pass and special abilities
On 21 October the player level became Rank, the Season Pass arrived, every character got a special ability, and Building Guards let you choose who mans your Capo Buildings. Daily quests landed the same day.
The City and Card Evolution
22 October was our biggest day: Card Evolution, animated card frames and the City. Starting with a map of Istanbul, the City grew the same day into a world of 12 cities, with flights and a weekly Family War. The game also moved to its own address: mafiagun.com, with Google sign-in.
Guns, skeletons and 8 angles
On 23 and 24 October we brought the characters back to life. Every unit fights with its own weapon, points it at the target, and the bullet leaves the muzzle. Every character is drawn from 8 angles, the rotors never stop and the building guards take aim. For phones we added memory-friendly art and a safety net.
What's next?
New cards, new events, family features and more. We're growing the game together with its players; your ideas mean a lot to us.
